Andrea G. Barthwell, MD, FASAM, is CEO of EMGlobal LLC, a parent company of Two Dreams Outer Banks. Dr. Barthwell is a leading addiction medicine physician and a former president of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Barthwell served as Deputy Director for Demand Reduction in the Office of National Drug Control Policy from 2002 to 2004. She was awarded the prestigious Betty Ford Award for lifetime contributions to the field of addiction medicine in 2003. Additionally, Dr. Barthwell's peers named her one of the "Best Doctors in America" in addiction medicine in 1997.
Thomas Carrig, Chef, has been recognized for his tasty and nutritious meals by the magazine Vegetarian Times, among other organizations. Motivated by the disappearance of healthy, unprocessed food from the American food chain, Chef Carrig retired from his 20-year career as a polymer scientist to pursue his true passion: meal preparation. Mr. Carrig has an AAS degree in culinary arts and a bachelor’s degree in nutrition. Prior to joining Two Dreams, Chef Carrig developed menus for the renowned Duke University Diet & Fitness Center. He has also worked as a personal chef for prominent families and successful athletes.
Jack Cook, Personal Trainer, has been a fitness professional for over ten years. Mr. Cook's educational background is in nutrition.
Doretha Harrell, Administrative Assistant, has over 15 years combined experience in the medical and general administrative fields.
Stephanie Hogate, MSW, LCSW, Counselor, is a therapist with over 16 years of experience in the addictions field in both outpatient and residential treatment.
Rosemary McGowan, House Manager, possesses over 15 years of experience in family care and household management. Ms. McGowan holds an associate degree in early childhood development.
Alison Pillow, Recreation Coordinator, has a background in commercial and community recreation and is a lifelong advocate of healthy, active living. Mrs. Pillow holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation, parks, and tourism and a master’s degree in health and human performance.
Diane Fisher, RN, Health and Fitness Consultant, is a certified personal trainer who emphasizes the importance of a balanced diet and moderate exercise. Ms. Fisher is also a practicing nurse and kickboxing instructor.
Elizabeth Holt, MS, ATR-BC, LPC, Clinical Director, has 25 years of experience in the field of addiction. Ms. Holt works with addicted professionals and individuals who have co-occurring disorders. She also has extensive training in trauma-based disorders.
Richard Martin, MTS, EdD, Clinical Consultant, is a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist and Certified Clinical Supervisor. In addition to providing clinical supervision, Dr. Martin is the principal of the Dare County Alternative School. He has been working in the substance abuse treatment field since 1979.
John Sanchez, DO, Medical Director, serves as the medical director at Outer Banks Urgent Care where he practices family medicine, urgent care, and weight loss treatment. Dr. Sanchez is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice. He is also a certified Medical Review Officer for several businesses and was recognized by the Community Practitioner Program for his volunteer activities and for successful development of a unique practice recognized by the North Carolina Medical Society.
Matthew Torrington, MD, Consulting Addictionist, is a family medicine physician with a specialty in addiction medicine. Dr. Torrington is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, the American Board of Addiction Medicine, and the American Academy of Pain Management. He has a clinical focus in the treatment of pain, stimulant dependence, alcohol dependence, and opiate dependence. He is also a clinical researcher.
